NAIDOC Week: Community Initiative Submissions Open

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is inviting the community to apply for funding to support local, community‑led events and activities during NAIDOC Week 2026.

Council will provide funding through an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process. The EOI is now open and will close on Monday 27 April.

During the application period, Council will offer both online and face to face information sessions, as well as one on one support for applicants who require assistance with preparing their submissions.

All submissions will be assessed by a panel comprising Council staff and the representatives from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee.

A total of $15,000 is available and may be shared across several successful applicants.

NAIDOC Week takes place from 5 to 12 July 2026. All funded events or initiatives must occur in the Georges River local government area during NAIDOC Week, however they can start before or end after NAIDOC Week.

Expressions of interest are open to organisations and businesses that service the Georges River area, including:

  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO).

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander businesses including sole traders.

  • Organisations that run events or initiatives designed and led by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander staff.

  • Organisations can also apply in partnership with an ACCO or with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander business.

Funding can support a range of costs needed to run NAIDOC Week initiatives. This includes key event services like traffic management, toilet facilities, and waste services. Funding may also help cover park or venue hire, as well as fees for facilitators, artists, or performers.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the strength, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples."

"We encourage local organisations, businesses, and community groups to put forward their ideas."

"This funding provides an opportunity to create meaningful events that showcase culture, promote connection, and support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices."
