Narran Lake Nature Reserve near Brewarrina is hosting a rare Open Day next Saturday 9 April and it's likely to be one for the birds.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Area Manager Marty Linehan said visitors should take this opportunity to see the internationally recognised wetland in all its glory.
"Narran Lake Nature Reserve is only open to visitors on Open days such as this one and it will certainly be worth making the trip this year.
"Back-to-back wet years have meant that for the first time in many years there is plenty of water in the lake system.
"This has triggered the best bird breeding event in a decade.
"While access to nesting areas is limited, the diversity and abundance of birdlife is guaranteed to keep twitchers happy.
"Visitors may be able to see straw-necked ibis, egrets, spoonbills, comorants, darters and herons in decent numbers.
"Other waterbirds including ducks, swans, grebe and pelicans could also make an appearance.
"Off the water there's likely to be woodswallows, honeyeaters and even pink cockatoos.
"But it's not just about the birds, cultural walks, stories and experiences will also offer visitors an insight into the rich Aboriginal cultural heritage of the area.
"It's a great opportunity for people to celebrate both the ecological and cultural wonders of the wetland," Mr Linehan said.
