National Careers Week 2021: Wrap

Last week was National Careers Week 2021, and this year we proudly partnered with the Career Industry Council of Australia to bring this event to Australia.

What is National Career Week?

National Careers Week is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia and aims to celebrate careers, career development, career development services, and career development practitioners.

It also promotes the economic, social and personal benefits of career development for all Australians.

Who is the Career Industry Council of Australia?

Going by the acronym of CICA, they are the National Peak Body representing the broad range of organisations and associations involved in providing career development services and programs throughout Australia. It is the only industry body concerned specifically with work and learning transitions.

CICA is a not for profit organisation guided by a voluntary Council.

Broadly, CICA focuses on quality assurance and contributes to systemic improvements in the quality of and access to career services for the benefit of all Australians across the lifespan and to the achievement of national policy priority outcomes.

What is the purpose of National Careers Week?

Career development is a process of managing learning, work and leisure to progress through life. It includes gaining and using the skills and knowledge needed to plan and make informed decisions about education, training, and work. Everyday decisions and priorities affect career development. Ultimately, career development is about much more than jobs – it is about how to live your life.

The objectives of National Careers Week are to:

  • Develop community awareness of the concept, benefit, and value of career development.
  • Raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes, and broaden horizons about careers.
  • Highlight the need for ongoing reskilling and upskilling to support careers throughout life.
  • Identify the changing nature of work and its impact on all Australians.
  • Showcase industries and the career opportunities available in them.
  • Provide opportunities to partner with key stakeholders.
