National Weather Forecast: Bright And Warm Spring Day

BOM
Hello, it's Angus here at the Bureau of Meteorology with the national weather forecast for Thursday, the 18th of September. Let's dive right in and see how the weather could shape up.

It's going to be a settled, fine, and mostly sunny day across the country. High pressure is our main player at the moment. Through the week so far, it has been quite windy and wet across Tasmania, and that will continue during Thursday. Most other areas are getting away with sunny conditions.

Starting in Queensland, it's another beautiful and warm day. Temperatures will reach the high 20s across the southeast, up to 28 °C for Brisbane, with some areas along the east coast seeing 30s and high 30s through the western parts of the state. Rain packed quite a punch around the north tropical coast on Wednesday, and there will be more showers on Thursday - mostly between Cairns and Cardwell, around the Innisfail area, and also up in the Daintree. However, rainfall totals in the northern tropics will be lower than Wednesday.

Across New South Wales, Thursday will bring sunny weather - one of those spring days that starts off quite chilly. In the ACT, we'll likely see frost in the high country, especially around Canberra, with a 0 °C start. Afternoon temperatures will be mild and even tend warm in some areas. Expect low to mid 20s along the east coast, including Sydney, high teens in elevated areas, and mid to upper 20s out west.

Victoria is also in for a nice spring day. It'll be cold to start, with frost in the high country, but mild and sunny in the afternoon. Big temperature swings are expected - Bendigo, for example, will range from 2 to 20 °C, which is typical of autumn and spring. Winds will turn north in the afternoon, and most of the state should exceed 20 °C. It'll get a bit breezy towards the end of the day.

Tasmania will be a touch warmer after a cool few days. Winds will ease during the morning, giving way to a bright spell of weather. The sun will come out, and temperatures will be a little milder. However, the wind will rise again in the afternoon and evening, with showery weather returning to the west coast and some showers possible across the north. Hobart will be mostly fine with just a slight chance of a shower.

South Australia continues with the yo-yoing temperatures - up again for Thursday. Expect temperatures back into the 20s or even 30s across the state, several degrees above average, especially in the north. Adelaide is looking at 23 °C. There may be some cloud overhead, but conditions will stay dry throughout the area.

In Western Australia, light showers will affect the far south-western corner of the South West Land Division. No significant rainfall is expected - perhaps a millimetre or two for some coastal areas, including Perth. Temperatures will be in the high teens in the southwest, with clear skies and sunshine elsewhere. Central parts will see temperatures in the lower 20s, and the tropical north will have high 20s to low 30s.

In the Northern Territory, there is a slight to moderate chance of a few showers in Arnhem Land, around Carpentaria, and down into the Barkly. A couple of stints of rainfall may occur through the day, but other areas will remain dry and sunny. Expect 33 °C in Darwin, 36 in Katherine, 38 in Kununurra, and a sunny 30 °C in Broome.
