Tasmania's housing and construction industry is set to benefit from the signing of a new national 'Kit of Parts' housing agreement.
The agreement aims to develop a publicly available set of specifications and standardised building components to support off-site manufacturing and advance prefabricated and modular construction across Australia.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the agreement would deliver increased productivity in housing construction and see more homes built, faster.
"Helping build more homes, faster in the right locations to meet demand is how we will meet our long-term housing targets," Minister Vincent said.
"The Kit of Parts initiative is focused on improving productivity in the residential construction sector through greater use of off-site manufacturing and modular processes.
"A national Kit of Parts approach will allow manufacturers to produce parts and components that are compatible across multiple projects through consistent designs and specifications.
"Increasing our housing supply is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, these changes will help achieve more houses."
Building 4.0 CRC will work with the states and territories to further develop and encourage adoption of the system across Australia.
"Instead of reinventing the wheel for every project, there will be a standard set of components to pick from, supporting high-quality and affordable housing that will last a lifetime," Minister Vincent said.
"By making it easier for builders and manufacturers to work from a common set of specifications, the initiative aims to reduce complexity, improve efficiency and support faster housing delivery.
"We welcome the Australian Government's investment in this initiative and the opportunity to work together to strengthen industry capability and get more homes built."
