NATO Chief Hosts Denmark, Greenland Ministers

NATO

On Monday 19 January 2026, the Defence Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, Troels Lund Poulsen, and the Foreign Minister of Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt, visited NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, for a bilateral meeting with Secretary General Mark Rutte.

They discussed the importance of the Arctic, including Greenland, to the Alliance's collective security. NATO has been increasing its ability to deter and defend in the High North and already maintains a persistent presence to support peace and stability and to safeguard the Alliance's shared interests in the region. Allies have been increasing their investments in key capabilities, with Denmark providing an important example including through the purchase of more air-to-air refuelling, long-range drones, maritime patrol aircraft, and F-35 fighter jets.

Allies will continue to work together to ensure that we have what it takes to address any challenges to our security in every part of the Alliance.
