NATO Deputy Secretary General stresses importance of strengthening transatlantic ties at Delphi Economic Forum

NATO

Speaking at the sixth edition of the Delphi Economic Forum on Monday (10 May 2021), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană advocated the strengthening of transatlantic ties. He underlined the importance of NATO as a unique platform bringing Europe and North America together to discuss and defend our shared security.

Mr. Geoană called for an increased commitment to our collective defence and underlined that NATO 2030 is all about reinforcing our unity, broadening our approach to security, and strengthening our global partnerships. He underscored that Allies must safeguard the rules-based international order against the authoritarian push-back by countries like Russia and China that do not share our values.

Welcoming the resumption of exploratory talks between Greece and Turkey as an important step towards resolving some of the underlying issues, Mr. Geoană thanked Greece and Turkey as valued Allies for their important contributions to our shared security. The Deputy Secretary General also welcomed the European Union's efforts on defence and stressed that a stronger European defence can benefit NATO.

The Delphi Economic Forum's annual conference brings together leaders from across sectors in an effort to spark dialogue, inspire change and transform conversation into action.
