The Commander of NATO Mission Iraq (NMI), Major General Christophe Hintzy, from France, met with the NATO Secretary General and Ambassadors of all NATO Allies and partners contributing troops to NMI, today (29 October 2025), at NATO Headquarters.
Major General Hintzy updated the Council on NMI's daily efforts on the ground, including the progress achieved through its advising and capacity building activities in support of Iraq's security forces and institutions. He highlighted the fruitful cooperation developed with Iraqi counterparts and underscored NMI's overall contribution to lasting security in the country.
NATO Mission Iraq is a non-combat mission established at the request of the Iraqi authorities. It helps Iraq build more sustainable, transparent, inclusive and effective security institutions and forces, supporting their ability to stabilise their country, fight terrorism, and prevent the return of ISIS/Daesh.
The Iraqi authorities have identified several primary objectives for cooperation with NMI, including security education, logistics, cyber defence, budgeting, crisis and disaster management, and good governance.
All of NMI's efforts are carried out in full respect of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
