Nearly $2,000 To Dump Load Of Rubbish

A Driffield man will pay the price for illegal dumping after EPA Victoria fined him $1,976.

The investigation began when the operator of a nearby pine plantation found the abandoned waste at the intersection of Smiths Road and the Strzelecki Highway.

EPA officers arrived to find enough mixed waste to fill a truck, including construction and demolition waste, old tyres, milk crates, tarps, furniture, metal and general household waste, and it was the ordinary garbage that gave the game away.

Among the rubbish were several clues that helped the investigators to track down the culprit.

Along with the fine, the man has been issued with a regulatory notice requiring him to clean up the mess, and EPA says the investigation will remain open until the waste has been taken for proper disposal.

Under the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Infringements Act 2006, the man has the right to have the infringement notice reviewed or be considered by a court.
