The first live broadcast of a Ballarat City Council meeting on Wednesday 15 May was watched by 487 people.
The statistics highlight the interest Ballarat residents have in the rigorous debate undertaken by the Ballarat City Council in the chamber.
Deputy Mayor Cr Jim Rinaldi said it was fantastic that so many people had tuned in to see the nine councillors debate issues close to ratepayers' hearts.
"We want our residents to see the way we reach our decisions - the discussions we have and the questions we ask," Cr Rinaldi said.
"We also want all of our residents to be able to see local government in action and live broadcasting is a terrific way to bring our deliberations into peoples' homes.
"We want to be transparent about our decision making, especially over the controversial issues that really affect our ratepayers, and this is a way of ensuring that transparency is apparent at every one of our meetings.
"The fact 487 people tuned in to watch us, many for the first time, is a sign the people of Ballarat have a keen interest in the level of government that can often have the most impact on their everyday lives."
