Nearly $6.9M FOR A HIGH-PURITY ALUMINUM PRODUCTION PLANT

Saguenay, June 17, 2019 - The governments of Canada and Quebec are providing a total of nearly $6.9 million in financial assistance to Nature Alu Inc. for the establishment of a high-purity aluminum production plant. This project, with a total investment of more than $15 million, will create 14 jobs in Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean.

Ms. Andrée Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Minister responsible for the Saguenay−Lac-Saint-Jean region, on behalf of the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, and the Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Jean and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion, Mr. Richard Hébert, on behalf of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), the Honourable Navdeep Bains, made the announcement today.

The plant located in the district of La Baie will produce between 3,000 and 4,000 tonnes of high-purity aluminum metal (99.9%) annually for export to the electronics, chemistry and specialty alloy markets.

The Government of Quebec provided Nature Alu Inc. with a loan of $3M from the ESSOR program, and $1.5M comes from Investissement Québec's own funds. The Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing provided $500,000 in funding through the Regional Outreach Fund. The Department of Economy and Innovation provided $27,000 in financial support through the Export Program (PEX).

The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $1.5 million through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program and $330,000 through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).
