Nearly decade and nothing to show for it

Tasmanian Labor

With Parliament resuming this week Labor will continue to hold to account a government that has been in power for nearly a decade and has nothing to show for it apart from failure.

The Rockliff government is out of touch with the priorities of Tasmanians.

We have the worst health outcomes in the country, evidenced by AMA and productivity commission reports.

We have ambulances ramped at our hospitals and paramedics leaving the state to find work elsewhere.

We have women in the North West of the state that can't access safe maternity services.

We have the worst education outcomes of any state in the country, again evidenced by a productivity commission report with many kids unable to read by the time they get into high school.

We have Tasmanian families and businesses paying exorbitant prices for power due to this government breaking its election promise to take us out of the National Electricity Market.

And we have Tasmanians sleeping in tents, cars and garages because of this government's failure to deliver the houses they said they would.

Mr Rockliff's ministers also fail uphold their responsibilities to tell the truth.

We'll be ensuring that Minister Ogilvie is held to account for misleading parliament on the reasons former Racing CEO Paul Eriksson left the position.

We also saw Michael Ferguson earlier this year state there was no vacancy control measures in the Department of Police and Emergency Management when the Minister Felix Ellis had told state parliament in August last year that there was. Mr Ferguson has yet to correct the record and the Premier seems too scared to stand up to him and require him to do so.

This is a government that has run out of ideas and energy and has nothing to show for nearly a decade of government.

Labor will spend 2023 not only holding the government to account as any opposition should but also rolling out our plans for the future.
