Netball Teams Shine On Court

The Australian Defence Force Netball Association (ADFNA) teams returned from the Australian Men's and Mixed Netball Association (AMMNA) Championships with more than just results - they came back with renewed passion, strengthened resilience and lasting connections across services.

Both the men's and mixed teams left the tournament inspired to further develop their skills and get involved in local leagues.

ADFNA president and AMMNA mixed head coach Wing Commander Jackie Carswell said despite limited preparation compared to state-level teams, the ADF players demonstrated strong teamwork, adaptability and resilience - hallmarks of service life.

With a diverse group of participants, including a submariner, dentist and firefighter among Service Category 5 and 7 personnel, the event highlighted the wide-ranging capabilities and unity of the ADF.

"AMMNA is a vital part of the ADF Netball program, offering athletes a chance to compete against top-tier national talent in multiple divisions, including U17, U20, U23 and Open," Wing Commander Carswell said.

"The exposure helps attract new recruits and underscores the unique opportunities a Defence career provides."

While the men's team didn't secure a win, they unearthed promising new talent. The mixed team, meanwhile, reached the finals after a string of impressive performances, including a historic victory over Queensland - their first in eight years. Equally impressive was the injury-free tournament, a testament to improved athlete preparation and load management.

A standout achievement came from Private Monique Clifton, who was named the All Star Wing Attack for the Mixed Reserve Division - making her the first ADF player to earn the honour since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
