The brand new Glenview Community Care Nursing Home in Rutherglen has officially opened its doors - built by the Allan Labor Government following a $57.1 million investment to support ageing locals in the region.
Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today welcomed the first residents to the 50-bed state-of-the-art facility - now operating on Main Street and managed by Glenview Health.
Designed and built with the dignity, independence and wellbeing of residents in mind, it features private bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, smaller household-style living areas and shared spaces including a community room, reflection room and landscaped gardens.
The completed facility also features open area views and an abundance of natural light, acknowledging the positive impact of green spaces and fresh air for residents' physical and mental wellbeing, as well as increasing social interaction - providing welcoming spaces for residents, and their families and friends to gather.
The new facility will also provide a dementia friendly environment that is better suited to supporting the mental health and complex care needs of older Victorians.
The design focus means residents can 'age in place' - which is particularly important in regional areas like Rutherglen - meaning they remain close to support networks and maintain family and community connections as their care needs increase.
Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Zauner Construction, the project created over 170 local construction jobs and will continue to generate employment opportunities in the region.
The Labor Government is ensuring more Victorians across the state can access high-quality aged care, investing $34.6 million in the Victorian Budget 2025/26 to strengthen Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services - Australia's largest state-funded aged care network. With a further $7.5 million invested to continue upgrades to facilities across the sector.
This builds on the strong track record of investment including more than $700 million in public residential aged care - with $370 million dedicated to the Rural and Regional Public Sector Residential Aged Care Revitalisation Strategy to replace and refurbish facilities across Victoria.
As stated by Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt
"Victorians deserve to age with dignity and respect - and this modern facility in Rutherglen will do just that, providing local residents with the independence and chance to age close to home and their loved ones."
As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne
"We're upgrading public aged care right across the state because older Victorians and the people caring for them deserve safe, comfortable and state-of-the-art facilities no matter where they live."
As stated by Member Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes
"It's fantastic to see the new aged care home in Rutherglen officially open - seeing how happy the first residents are to have moved into their new homes is wonderful and marks a big step forward for the community."
