New assistant commissioners appointed

Victoria Police has today announced the appointment of two new Assistant Commissioners.

Commander Libby Murphy from our Southern Metro Region has been appointed Assistant Commissioner Road Policing Command and will lead police efforts to reduce the number of lives lost on Victorian roads.

Chief Commissioner Ashton said: "Libby's appointment comes at a critical time. Many people have experienced the devastation of losing a loved one on our roads in 2019. Libby has established herself as an effective senior leader with a proven record in achieving results. Her leadership and passion for serving the community will be invaluable as we strive to turn these matters around."

Commander Brett Curran has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner at our Gender Equality and Inclusion Command, and will lead our continuing efforts to reform culture and create workplaces that are safe, inclusive and respectful.

"Commander Brett Curran is an outstanding police officer and leader. With 31 years at Victoria Police, he is one of our longest serving Commanders, with a proven ability to work through complex matters with skill and sound judgement," Mr Ashton said.

"Over the past five years we have made great progress in driving cultural reforms across Victoria Police. But we know that an ongoing commitment is vital if we are to sustain the momentum, and I am confident that Brett will bring that focus and energy the organisation needs to deliver lasting change."

Both appointments will be effective from Monday, 9 December 2019.
