New Assistant Commissioners of Tasmania Police

The Tasmanian Government warmly congratulates Rob Blackwood and Glenn Keating on their appointments as Assistant Commissioners of Tasmania Police today.

The role of Assistant Commissioner brings with it great responsibilities within Tasmania Police, and Assistant Commissioners Blackwood and Keating have both demonstrated impressive skill-sets in their careers with Tasmania Police.

For the first time in Tasmania Police history, a third Assistant Commissioner portfolio has been established – Innovation, Capability and Risk.

This portfolio will include responsibility for Education and Training Command, which is delivering on the Government's commitment of increasing police numbers by 329 by July 2026. This role will be held by Assistant Commissioner Keating.

Assistant Commissioner Blackwood will take on the role of Assistant Commissioner Specialist Support, which includes responsibilities for Family and Sexual Violence response and the Crime and Intelligence Command.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, has congratulated the new Assistant Commissioners on their appointments.

"Our Government is delivering record numbers of frontline police officers in the community, and we are now also bolstering our police leadership capability with an additional Assistant Commissioner role," he said.

"Both Assistant Commissioners Blackwood and Keating are renowned for their approachable leadership styles, strategic thinking and their passion for keeping the Tasmanian community safe.

"The new Assistant Commissioners will work closely with our current Assistant Commissioner, Adrian Bodnar, to support the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Tasmanian Government.

"I'm confident that their capability, experience and drive will contribute immensely in the mission we all share to protect our community from crime.

"I am excited to work closely with Assistant Commissioners Blackwood and Keating, and again congratulate both leaders on this wonderful opportunity."
