Strong Indigenous businesses, entrepreneurs and communities contribute to a more inclusive and resilient economy. Investments that support Indigenous-led economic development, skills development and community capacity help create opportunities for long-term growth and prosperity across Atlantic Canada.
Today, David Myles, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages and to the Secretary of State (Nature), and Member of Parliament for Fredericton-Oromocto, announced a non-repayable federal investment of $1,496,000 for the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) to strengthen Indigenous entrepreneurship and expand economic opportunities throughout New Brunswick.
This contribution will provide three years of core and activity-based funding to JEDI, supporting new Indigenous business start-ups and the growth of existing Indigenous enterprises. The funding will help JEDI deliver programs and services that build business capacity, strengthen workforce skills and support community economic development planning, while improving access to financing, procurement opportunities and new markets. Through this work, JEDI will help Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities advance their economic priorities and strengthen New Brunswick's economy.
Today's announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to economic reconciliation, supporting Indigenous-led economic development and building a stronger, more inclusive economy across Atlantic Canada.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
