New CCTV at tram and train stops to keep commuters safe

The Marshall Liberal Government is investing $2 million to install CCTV cameras across more train and tram stops, to help keep commuters safe on our public transport system.

Broadmeadows Railway Station on the Gawler/Gawler Central Line, Woodville Railway Station on the Grange/Outer Harbor Line and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre tram stop at Hindmarsh will have CCTV cameras installed to improve the safety and security of passengers.

"The Marshall Government is continuing to improve our public transport systems to provide a better service for passengers and drive patronage growth," Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Stephan Knoll.

"Safety is often an important consideration when people are deciding to whether or not to use public transport, especially late services.

"CCTV cameras are very important in ensuring passengers feel safe when they use the public transport network.

"On top of the CCTV, additional lighting will also be installed as a further safety measure for passengers, staff and the general public.

"The safety of passengers and transport staff is of paramount importance and that's why these measures are necessary to improve the security of these stations.

"These CCTV cameras will also help to deter criminals who may seek to vandalise our trains and trams or other station infrastructure.

"They also make it easier for the authorities to convict those they catch doing the wrong thing because they help provide better evidence.

"We hope these additional safety measures will encourage more people to use public transport and drive patronage growth, which will lead to a better transport system.

"A review identified these three stops as a priority for these systems to be installed.

"These measures are particularly important at the Entertainment Centre tram stop, where there is a high volume of people in the area late at night after concerts and other events."

A contractor will be selected to undertake the works following a competitive tender process.

The installation of these systems will not impact any Adelaide Metro train or tram services at the identified stations.
