New CEO to Lead Department of Children and Families

Minister for Children and Families Robyn Cahill has today announced the appointment of Brent Warren as Chief Executive of the Department of Children and Families.

Mr Warren brings more than 25 years of Northern Territory public sector experience to the role, with senior leadership positions across child protection, youth justice, housing, emergency management and law enforcement.

He is currently Deputy Chief Executive, Corporate, Strategic and Enabling Services at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development, and has previously served as Deputy Chief Executive Housing, General Manager Youth Justice and General Manager Family Services at Territory Families, Housing and Communities. Earlier in his career, Mr Warren spent 17 years with NT Police, concluding as Commander, Greater Darwin.

Ms Cahill said Mr Warren's appointment comes at an important time for the Department of Children and Families.

"The Department of Children and Families delivers critical services that protect and support children and families and helps vulnerable Territorians onto a better path," Ms Cahill said.

"Brent's extensive experience, leadership and strong connection to Territory communities will be invaluable as he leads the department in this vital work."

Having grown up in Nhulunbuy and Alyangula and worked across Central Australia, Big Rivers and Greater Darwin, Mr Warren brings both professional expertise and personal insight into the challenges and opportunities facing families and communities throughout the Territory.

Ms Cahill also acknowledged the contribution of Raelene Burke, who has been Acting Chief Executive during the transition.

"I sincerely thank Raelene for her contribution and commitment during her time as Acting Chief Executive. She will continue to provide support to help deliver continuity as Mr Warren steps into the role."

Mr Warren commences as Chief Executive of the Department of Children and Families from Monday, 29 September 2025.
