New Clubs, Old Faves Shine at Get Active Sign-On

Annandale's Townsville Stadium will come alive this Sunday as the annual Get Active Sign‑On delivers the region's most comprehensive showcase of sport, fitness and wellbeing opportunities.

The popular event, delivered by Townsville City Council, will transform the stadium from 9am–1pm into a central hub where residents can explore the clubs, programs and activities available to them.

More than 75 stallholders will be on site, ranging from baseball, archery and roller derby clubs through to nutritionists as well as dance and yoga studios.

Townsville Deputy Mayor Suzy Batkovic said this year's exhibitor line-up represented the highest turnout in years.

"This year's Get Active Sign-On is shaping up to be a fabulous day and Council is encouraging residents to drop in on Sunday and take full advantage of what's on offer," Cr Batkovic said.

"The Active Zone timetable is looking great, giving people the chance to try out new activities on the day - with dance fitness as the first cab off the rank followed by seven other fun come-and-try options.

"If you've set a goal to prioritise your health, fitness, or family activities this year, this event is the perfect place to start.

"Whether it's finding a new sport for the kids or discovering a fun group activity for yourself, it's all in one convenient location this Sunday."

For the first time, Get Active Sign-On will welcome the North Queensland Mower Racing Club to the event, adding a unique and high‑energy option to the mix.

Club spokesperson Renee Hanran said she and her fellow racing enthusiasts were excited to introduce more Townsville residents to the sport.

"We're thrilled to be attending Get Active Sign‑On for the very first time this weekend," Mrs Hanran said.

Mower racing is an action-packed sport for the whole family – and events like this allow us to show people what our club and sport is all about.

"Beyond our mower racing, we also offer junior Dirt Devils, which enables motorsport racing from the age of three as well as dirt carts – it's all about action, fun and for some of us, being a little bit competitive.

"We're looking forward to meeting locals, answering questions and hopefully welcoming some new faces to the club at this Sunday's event."

The 2026 Get Active Sign‑On is free to attend, and will take place this Sunday (February 1) from 9am-1pm at Townsville Stadium.
