A new committee has been established to judge nominations for the inaugural Whittlesea Community Awards.
The exciting new Whittlesea Community Awards program, which will replace Council's Australia Day Awards, has five categories: Access and Inclusion Citizen of the Year, Sustainable Environment Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
At its meeting on 5 July, Council appointed seven community representatives to the new Committee, which will evaluate the nominations for each award category.
Administrator Peita Duncan, alongside a representative from Council's executive leadership team, will also be on the Committee.
Ms Duncan said the Committee members represent the age, ability, gender, professional, cultural and locality diversity of the City of Whittlesea community.
"They have all been recognised for their contribution to the community as either former Australia Day Award recipients or through demonstration of passion for the local community," Ms Duncan said.
"These awards will highlight the volunteer spirit that is widespread across the City of Whittlesea, and recognise the community champions, who come from all walks of life and make an extraordinary contribution to our municipality," Ms Duncan said.
