New community grants promote Healthy Tasmania

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Health

The Hodgman Liberal Government wants to make Tasmania the healthiest state and the second round of Healthy Tasmania community grants are set to help more people live healthier and longer lives.

The Tasmanian Government's Healthy Tasmania Five Year Strategic Plan is investing $1 million into community health projects lasting up to 12 months.

Applications were sought from non-government organisations and 24 successful applications were awarded seed funding of up to $25,000 to focus on a combination of physical activity, healthy eating, smoking cessation and building community connections.

All projects will draw on existing community strengths, services and resources to make healthier choices easier in homes, workplaces, schools and in the broader community.

The projects demonstrate innovation, forward thinking, inclusiveness and will involve a wide range of community members throughout the state.

In the longer term these projects support the Hodgman Liberal Government's plan to keep Tasmanians healthier for longer and out of the health system.
