New Council Member Joins National Museum Australia

The National Museum of Australia in Canberra welcomes the appointment of Honorary Professor Esther Anatolitis to the organisation's Council.

Ms Anatolitis is a leading advocate for the arts and a respected champion of artists' voices, having held senior positions across multiple disciplines for many years.

The appointment was announced today by the Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke MP, who said Ms Anatolitis 'brings a strong combination of creative strategy and policy skills as well as demonstrated experience in Australia's arts and cultural sector'.

National Museum Director Katherine McMahon said the Museum's Council would greatly benefit from the appointment of Ms Anatolitis.

'Ms Anatolitis joins an innovative and ambitious organisation, buoyed by a couple of stellar years during which the Museum enjoyed record visitation,' said Ms McMahon.

'We are working to further expand our audiences across all platforms and her extensive experience across arts and media organisations is a welcome addition to the Council as we prosecute this agenda,' said Ms McMahon.

The appointment of Ms Anatolitis is for a three-year term.

Ms Anatolitis is Honorary Professor at RMIT School of Art and a former member of the National Gallery of Australia Governing Council. Ms Anatolitis works all over Australia on strategic development, cultural infrastructure and public policy. For more than two decades she has held arts and media CEO positions as well as strategic advisory roles on museum and gallery best practice, cultural governance, creative precincts, collections and public programming.
