New Craft Spirits Festival Debuts in Echuca Moama

Spirit on the Murray

Echuca Moama is set to host one of regional Victoria's most distinctive weekends this spring, with the launch of Spirit on the Murray—a two-day celebration of craft spirits, local makers and regional produce.

Set to be held in the heart of the Port precinct and backed by the team at Echuca Distillery, the festival will showcase more than 100 craft spirits from across Victoria, inviting visitors to sip, explore and connect with the people behind the pours.

"There's no shortage of food and drink events across Victoria, but this one hits different," said David De Vries, founder of Echuca Distillery and festival organiser.

"Victoria is home to around 120 distilleries, many in rural towns like ours and employing thousands of people. This event is about celebrating the creativity and science of distilling as well as growing the visibility of our industry and region," Mr De Vries said.

The festival kicks off Saturday, 6 September with two ticketed tasting sessions featuring spirit samples, roaming canapés, a take-home tasting cup and tote, and the chance to meet distillers from across the state. A morning masterclass hosted by Shane Byrne will feature leaders from Bass & Flinders, JimmyRum and Backwoods Distilling, offering insights into the future of Australian spirits.

Sunday, 7 September shifts the focus to regional produce and community connection. Entry is free and all ages are welcome, with local distillers joined by food and drink producers from Echuca Moama and surrounds.

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell welcomed the new festival.

"This is exactly the kind of event that puts Echuca Moama on the map, not just for visitors, but for locals who want to celebrate the creativity and talent in our own backyard."

"Spirit on the Murray will be a showcase of what regional Victoria does best - bringing people together through flavour, story and community," Cr Mackrell said.

From small-batch releases to unexpected collaborations like Echuca Distillery's new Perricoota Shiraz Gin, the festival reflects a mindset of quality over quantity.

"We're focused on quality, creativity and celebrating what makes regional distilling so special," said Mr De Vries.

Whether you're a seasoned spirits drinker or just curious to try something new, Spirit on the Murray offers a weekend of good spirits and great stories.
