New Deputy Commissioner appointment

Assistant Commissioner Robert (Bob) Hill has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Victoria Police.

Bob will join the Executive Command team as Deputy Commissioner Capability and will lead vital reforms that will continue to shape Victoria Police.

The Capability portfolio is a significant one responsible for a range of different commands that go to the heart of Victoria Police's culture, ethical and professional standards, and people development.

On making the appointment, Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said: "Bob is a highly successful and strategic police leader who has extensive general operational, specialist and corporate experience gained over an extensive career in policing."

"He has an in depth understanding of the organisational challenges and opportunities, and is trusted and respected within the organisation, as well as in the Victorian community.

"Bob has been a key influencer of policing across the nation through his leadership and involvement in numerous national committees and I am pleased to officially welcome him to my executive team.

"Combined with his dedication, strong stakeholder engagement and strategic mindset, I am confident Bob will continue to deliver outcomes to the benefit of Victoria Police and the Victorian community as a whole."

Deputy Commissioner Bob Hill said: "I am enormously proud to be a member of Victoria Police and am honoured to the appointed to the rank of Deputy Commissioner.

"I look forward to working with the leadership group and our people to address the immediate and future challenges of our organisation.

"We have a very talented workforce who do extraordinary work in keeping the community safe.

"While committed to delivering the organisational priorities, my focus will be centred upon our people ensuring they maintain the requisite skills, are fully equipped, and strongly supported to deliver exceptional policing service.

"It is critically important that our people feel empowered, confident and trusted to make decisions while responding to the different complex tasks now being presented in a contemporary policing environment."

Bob was appointed to the rank of Assistant Commissioner in 2012 and since that time has led Road Policing Command, Southern Metro Region and more recently in his current role in charge of Crime Command.

The promotion is effective immediately and Bob will officially commence in the Deputy Commissioner role on Monday 23 October.
