New Derby Tower Boosts Mobile Coverage for All

  • Optus delivers a new tower in response to network connectivity challenges in Derby.

Optus has improved coverage and increased network capacity in Derby by switching on a new tower in the region, helping residents, businesses, and tourists stay connected and giving them more options when it comes to choosing a network provider.

The new tower will improve mobile coverage and strengthen network resilience across the region, which is known for its purpose-built world-class mountain bike trails through rugged terrain.

Optus Territory General Manager for Tasmania, Peter West, said residents and tourists have already seen improvement in the mobile network, with better connectivity and reliability even during busy periods.

For years, Derby residents, local businesses, and the tens of thousands of tourists who descend on the region each year to ride the worlds premier purpose-built mountain bike trails have been plagued by connectivity and coverage challenges.

I am sure the new tower will be welcomed by residents and tourists, who will benefit from a more consistent and reliable mobile network and improved connectivity.

Optus is thrilled to be able to improve the capacity and reliable connectivity needed to handle the increased customer load during events when there is an influx of tourists. During a recent event week, we saw usage of the new tower quadruple. I cant overstate how important this new tower is for Derby, said Mr West.

The investment to expand Optus telecommunications infrastructure and mobile coverage is part of an ongoing project to improve range and reliability across the Optus mobile network.
