  • New designs released for level crossing removals at Kuraby and Bethania as part of $5.75 billion Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail project.
  • Kuraby level crossing removal proposes a replacement road-over-rail bridge, while Bethania station and rail line could be elevated above Station Road, removing the need to build a road-over-rail bridge.
  • Community engagement sessions in Kuraby and Bethania will begin from tomorrow - Saturday 13 September.

Level crossing removals at Kuraby and Bethania are another step closer after updated designs were released to the community as part of the $5.75 billion Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail Project.

The project will remove five existing level crossings between Kuraby and Beenleigh to increase safety, reduce traffic congestion and improve cross corridor connections for local communities.

At Kuraby the level crossing on Beenleigh Road will be replaced by a road-over-rail bridge, with intersection upgrades to improve traffic flow and local connections.

Following feedback from the community, it's proposed the station and rail line at Bethania will be elevated above Station Road, removing the need to build a road-over-rail bridge.

This significantly lessens the impact on important community facilities and properties, reduces construction disruption on Station Road, and provides easier cross corridor access for the local community.

Community engagement sessions in Kuraby and Bethania will begin from Saturday 13 September, where locals can provide further input on the designs of both sites.

Updated designs for other key stations and precincts along the 20km project corridor will be progressively released and engagement sessions for these will occur later in the year.

The release of these designs comes as further site investigations began for the project earlier this month.

Drilling rigs, survey and noise monitoring equipment will be used as part of site investigations between Kuraby and Beenleigh to inform detailed design and construction planning activities.

The $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments with a 50:50 split.

The project will double the number of tracks from two to four between Kuraby and Beenleigh, remove level crossings, upgrade stations and deliver improved walking and cycling connections.

Designs have been further developed following award of the design and pre-construction contract for the major rail works package in March 2025 under the Crisafulli Government.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was focused on delivering for communities.

"We are getting on with the job of delivering the infrastructure Queensland needs for 2032 and beyond. This is about connecting communities, delivering generational legacy infrastructure, and reversing a decade of decline and project mismanagement under the former Labor state government," Minister Mickelberg said.

"The release of these updated designs is now a major step forward in this project, which will deliver a critical upgrade to South East Queensland's rail network and improve the traffic flow by removing five level crossings.

"We're pleased to be presenting the updated designs to the community and look forward locals providing feedback so that we can begin work on removing the first two of five level crossings."
