New dog park a pawsitive addition for dog lovers – Wollongong

The latest off leash dog park for our community has been completed, with the final touches on Reed Park Dog Park, Dapto finalised this week.

The grassed park is around 2500 square metres and provides two fenced areas – one to cater for large dogs over 15 kilograms and another for small dogs.

The dog-friendly spaces have tunnels for play, seating, dog waste bags and bins, and a water fountain with dog bowl to help quench any parched pooches.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that the dog park was another welcome addition to facilities available to our West Dapto community.

“Wollongong has one of the highest rates of dog ownership in NSW. While we are fortunate to have beaches that are dog friendly, it is important that we provide other opportunities for dog owners to exercise their pets in a secure off leash area,” he said.

All of Council’s off-leash area rules apply to the dog park and dogs must be under the control of someone aged 16 years or older. They must carry, and use, poo bags for any waste removal.

Dogs are not allowed in off-leash areas if they are a restricted breed or have been declared menacing or dangerous.

Cr Bradbery asked that dog owners remember to be courteous to other owners and animals and remain in control of their dog while using all off-leash areas.

“Remember that you are responsible for your dog’s behaviour and do the right thing by cleaning up after your dog so everyone can enjoy our facilities.”
