New Film, Doc Streaming Service Launches East Gippsland

East Gippsland Libraries members now have access to a world-class, on-demand streaming platform with the launch of Kanopy, a digital service offering thousands of films, documentaries, TV series and educational programs, all included with a free library membership.

Each member will receive 15 viewing tickets per month, providing flexible access to a diverse catalogue of high-quality content from around the world.

Kanopy features content from major studios including A24, Paramount, Warner Bros. and MGM, along with documentaries, classic films, Australian cinema and television series from leading broadcasters such as the BBC, PBS and The History Channel.

The platform also includes:

  • The Great Courses collection, featuring expert-led educational lectures
  • Kanopy Kids, a dedicated children's section with parental controls and curated, age-appropriate content
  • Films in more than 100 languages, supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Seamless access across mobile devices, desktop computers, smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast and more

Mayor Jodie Ashworth said Kanopy is a valuable addition to the library service, expanding access to quality entertainment and educational content for the community.

"Kanopy expands what our libraries can offer the community, giving members access to a remarkable collection of films, documentaries, television series and educational content from around the world.

"Whether you're looking to learn something new, explore different cultures, revisit classic films or simply enjoy quality entertainment, Kanopy makes that content accessible to everyone through their local library."

Mayor Ashworth said the new service also comes at an important time for many households facing cost-of-living pressures.

"At a time when many households are carefully managing their budgets and making decisions about which subscriptions they can afford to keep, Kanopy provides access to high-quality streaming content at no cost to library members.

"It's a simple way to enjoy great entertainment, discover new stories and access educational programs without the expense of another monthly subscription," Mayor Ashworth said.

Kanopy is available to all East Gippsland Libraries members from 9 July.
