New fire station for Yarrabilba

Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services The Honourable Mark Ryan

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Mark Ryan MP, and Member for Logan, Linus Power, joined Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Commissioner Mark Roche to officially open a new $4.75 million Fire and Rescue Station in Yarrabilba today.

Mr Ryan said it was an important addition to an area that had seen considerable growth in recent years.

"Yarrabilba is part of a booming residential growth corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast," he said.

"It's important we recognise the implications of current and future population growth in areas like Yarrabilba and plan for infrastructure that will grow with the community.

Logan MP Linus Power said the state government and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) are always looking for tangible ways to support Queenslanders, no matter where they live.

"The Yarrabilba Fire and Rescue Station has been designed for the future and has capacity to accommodate increased resourcing as the surrounding community grows.

"This is an important investment in community safety.

"Construction company FKG Group have done a fantastic job building this station to meet the operational needs of a contemporary fire service.

"I know our Yarrabilba firefighters, who have been until recently operating out of the Logan Village Fire Station, will make the most of this new facility and continue providing a world-class service to the local community."

Awards to recognise bravery, sacrifice and hard work were also presented on the day.

QFES Deputy Commissioner Mark Roche presented Commissioner's Commendations for Bravery, a QFES Medal, a Diligent and Ethical Service Medal Clasp, a Commissioner's Meritorious Service Award and an Assistant Commissioner's Certificate of Appreciation.

"The community relies on the courage and expertise of QFES and our other public safety agencies to keep them safe during emergencies," Mr Roche said.

"It's my honour to recognise the exemplary service of those who go above and beyond their usual duties to support Queensland communities.

"Today's seven award recipients have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to the important job they do.

"They have done incredible work keeping their communities safe and helping to build resilience across the region."
