New funding for bridge upgrades nationwide

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Motorists who travel on some of Australia's oldest and narrowest bridges will benefit from new Australian Government-funded upgrade and replacement projects.

The Australian Government is investing over $50.3 million towards 23 projects under the Bridges Renewal Program. This funding is part of the Government's ongoing commitment of $85 million per year to the program.

This program provides funding to address issues where bridges are no longer fit for purpose, often involving the replacement of single-lane timber bridges with safer and more durable double-lane, modern concrete structures.

The Bridges Renewal Program provides funding to state, territory and local governments for projects that upgrade and replace bridges to enhance access.
