New Hobart COVID-19 testing clinic opens at Macquarie Point

Peter Gutwein,Premier

A new COVID-19 testing clinic has today opened at Macquarie Point, further boosting Tasmania's testing capacity.

The facility, located behind 16A Evans Street, will open daily from 8.30am to 3.30pm, with capacity for up to six lanes of drive-through testing and walk-in testing if demand requires it.

While we are in a good place, the Victorian outbreak has shown the threat of COVID-19 is still very real, and keeping our testing rates high is so important to ensure we can quickly pick up and respond to any COVID-19 cases that enter our State.

With the colder months now upon us, this additional clinic will provide even more capacity and an ability to better respond to increases in demand should lockdowns in other states occur.

To get a free COVID test, people in the Hobart area can call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 or turn up at the clinic.

Going straight to the clinic may mean a wait for your test, depending on how many other people are on site for testing.

We continue to thank Tasmanians for doing the right thing, and while the vaccine rollout is doing well, there remains no room for complacency.

Continue to wash your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes, if you're unwell stay at home and don't go to work, and if you display even the mildest symptoms, please, get a test.
