The number of applicants on the Housing Register has dropped to its lowest level in 12 months thanks to the Rockliff Liberal Government's record housing investment.
The latest Housing Dashboard figures, set to be released today, reveals the number of applicants on the Housing Register decreased to 4,485 applicants during the month, due to the recent high number of new homes delivered and applicants housed.
The dashboard shows 123 households were supported into social housing in July - almost 97 per cent of whom were priority applicants from the Housing Register.
An additional 247 households were assisted through Private Rental Assistance and the Private Rental Incentives program.
Homes Tasmania and its community housing partners completed 44 new social housing properties in July following a record 276 new dwellings in June.
The MyHome Shared Equity program also had a very successful first year, with more than 200 households assisted into home ownership in the 2022-23 financial year.
Acting Minister for Housing and Construction, Jo Palmer, said increasing housing supply is a key element to combatting rising house prices and getting more Tasmanians into homes.
"More than 900 long-term homes and units for people needing supported or homelessness accommodation are currently in Homes Tasmania's pipeline of works, which will deliver more affordable homes and emergency housing options for Tasmanians in need," she said.
"Releasing more land for affordable residential housing is critical to our housing plan. Homes Tasmania recently released more than 200 lots of land in six residential subdivisions across the state, with about 85 per cent of these lots made available for affordable home ownership opportunities."
Homes Tasmania is delivering the Rockliff Liberal Government's long-term plan for 10,000 new social and affordable homes by 2032.
