New leadership opportunities for Barossa youth

We are pleased to launch the new Barossa Youth Leadership Program (B-YLP) which is designed to support young people age 15-22 years through a co-led leadership model.

The program, which will commence in Term 2 2021, will see young people increase their community awareness, expand networks and gain practical skills through specific theme focusses including environment, mental health and giving back.

We are offering the Barossa Youth Leadership Program to young people for free as we understand the importance of nurturing local youth and providing suitable developmental opportunities for both personal growth and community change making

- Mayor Bim Lange

B-YLP participants will meet for two hours each Tuesday (excluding school holidays) to participate in group learning sessions which will comprise of structured content, leadership training and relevant guest speakers. Youth leaders will also attend the annual Tea Tree Gully Leadership Conference and will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony upon completion of the Barossa Youth Leadership Program at the end of 2021.

The B-YLP will take the place of the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) which Council has facilitated for over a decade.

The YAC has been great, but we're really excited to be offering a more modern approach to leadership development for young people in the Barossa through the B-YLP - I think young leaders will get a lot out of the new Program

- Brooke Chinner, Youth Coordinator

Participant places within the 2021 program are limited. Apply online by 31 March.
