With $11.1 billion in Liberal cuts ready to roll, new Liberal leader Jess Wilson has revealed another cut: the Suburban Rail Loop.
The Liberals' sixth leader in seven years made her first policy announcement yesterday: the Liberals would "pause" the SRL if elected.
It is yet another Liberal policy on the SRL - a list that over the years has included "scrapping" the SRL, "shelving" the SRL, "pausing and reviewing" the SRL, "reprioritising funding" for the SRL, and "cancelling" the SRL.
Whatever the policy name, the outcome is the same: no SRL.
The Allan Labor Government is building the Suburban Rail Loop, in partnership with the Albanese Labor Government. Works are underway at all station sites and tunnelling starts next year.
Pausing the SRL at this point means cancelling the SRL.
It means sacking 4,000 workers, blocking 70,000 homes within walking distance of public transport, schools, healthcare and jobs - while making hundreds of thousands of Victorians spend more time in traffic.
That's not a plan for Victoria's future - that's a cut that hurts workers, families and young people who deserve the same opportunity to buy a home as their parents had.
