When a heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, having a defibrillator within the first few minutes is critical.
That's why the Tasmanian Liberal Government is providing a further $500,000 to the Community Defibrillator Fund to deliver an additional 180 life-saving AEDs right around the state.
This is on top of the 180 defibrillators we have already delivered across Tasmania, including Stanley, Mowbray, Flinders Island, Bagdad and many more locations.
The chance of survival following a cardiac arrest declines by up to 10 per cent every minute, which is why early access to a defibrillator is crucial.
Applications for Round 3 are now open, in line with our commitment for our first 100 days.
I encourage community groups, sports clubs and not-for-profit organisations within the community, especially those in rural communities, to apply.
Defibrillators are easy to use without any training and are audio-equipped to guide the user through the procedure.
Applications close 30 September 2021 and will be assessed on location, accessibility, ability to maintain, and the defibrillator being registered.
