New lights to be switched on at Elmore Rec Reserve

New AFL standard lights will be switched on at the Elmore Recreation Reserve at 6pm this Thursday evening by Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O'Rourke and the Hon Jacinta Allan MP in front of players and supporters of the Elmore Football and Netball Club and the local community.

City of Greater Bendigo Active and Healthy Lifestyles Manager Lincoln Fitzgerald said the new lighting provides options for training at 50 lux level and match play at 200 lux level.

"It also improve conditions for club training and makes it possible for junior matches to take place on Friday evenings as part of the Goulburn Campaspe Junior Football League," Mr Fitzgerald said.

"This project has been an important one for Elmore because it has included a significant power supply upgrade to meet current Australian standards and lighting to meet AFL guidelines.

"It's been a very positive project for the broader rural community as the recreation reserve serves as a central point of focus for many other community activities

"Elmore is a central location for the Heathcote District Football League and the new lighting will now support interleague training to take place at the reserve.

"The new lighting also complements the upgraded netball courts and lights which allows the ground to host night competition for both football and netball and has been a good collaborative project between the City, the Victorian Government and the local community who have raised significant funds towards the new lights."

The $345,000 project has been funded by the City of Greater Bendigo ($162,500), Victorian Government Sport and Recreation Victoria Country Football/Netball grant ($100,000) and the Elmore Football Netball Club ($82,500)
