The new Midway Point Park and Ride is opening shortly and will give local communities more options when travelling into the Hobart CBD.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the new facility was one of three new park and ride facilities planned across Greater Hobart, each designed to improve access to public transport and provide commuters with greater choice.
"Completing this first of three park and rides is an important milestone for making public transport more accessible, more reliable and more attractive for commuters travelling into the Hobart CBD," Minister Vincent said.
"The Midway Point Park and Ride will provide 61 car spaces, including two accessible spaces and five dedicated motorcycle spaces.
"It is centrally located between the shared pathways to both the Midway Point and Sorell causeways, making it an excellent option for people walking or riding.
"This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmanians, and the completion of key infrastructure projects is integral to that.
"By providing a safe and inviting space to connect with bus services, this facility supports more flexible transport choices and will help ease congestion on the Tasman Highway and Tasman Bridge, particularly during peak hours."
The facility connects with existing bus stops on Fenton Street and the Tasman Highway, along with a new stop on Penna Road.
Park and ride users will have access to services travelling to Sorell, the Southern Beaches, the Tasman Peninsula, the East Coast and Hobart.
Minister Vincent said the new facility was part of a broader plan to ensure Greater Hobart's transport network kept pace with growth.
"Along with the opening of the Midway Point Park and Ride, construction of the Claremont Park and Ride is due for completion in mid-2026, while updated designs for the Rokeby Park and Ride will go out for public consultation later this month," Minister Vincent said.
