New Molonglo Emergency Services Station On Track

The ACT Government is investing in emergency services infrastructure in the Molonglo Valley so residents have access to fire rescue and potentially life-saving medical treatment.

The Molonglo Emergency Services Station is set to be the largest in the ACT and will provide vital access to emergency services for those living and visiting the Molonglo, Woden Valley and Weston Creek districts.

Construction on the new $65 million ambulance and fire station is progressing and is on track for completion by mid-2026.

Concrete slabs having been poured and installation of in-ground services and structural steel framing underway. Precast wall panels have been installed to the fire truck and ambulance bay areas within the facility, which is strategically positioned on Cotter Road between John Gorton Drive and Steve Irwin Avenue.

Relocation activities and occupation by ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue will follow completion.

With the population of the Molonglo Valley expected to grow from 11,435 in 2021, to about 70,000 by 2050, the station will improve access to emergency services for residents and Canberrans who enjoy leisure activities in the surrounding areas.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Marisa Paterson was pleased to see the progress of the new station after a sod turning and Eucalyptus cleansing ceremony was held in December last year.

"The site has come a long way in the past nine months, and you can see the progress that has occurred in that time," Minister Paterson said.

"We know the Molonglo Valley is going to be one of our city's biggest growth areas in the next 20 or 30 years, so it's important we provide the infrastructure and services to support that.

"The Government is committed to providing our hard-working emergency services personnel with modern, purpose-built facilities so they can be there for the community when they need it."

Situated close to both urban and rural properties, the Molonglo Emergency Services Station has been designed with facilities and equipment that allow ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service personnel to face the unique challenges in their proximity.

This includes the procurement of a 4x4 all-terrain ambulance vehicle to traverse remote locations, as well as an I-Zone appliance to provide a Compressed Air Foam (CAF) blanket on structures and critical infrastructure during bush and grass fires.

Regular updates on the project's progress will be provided to the community, with additional information available on the Built for CBR website: www.builtforcbr.act.gov.au.
