The Illawarra's newest purpose-built mountain bike trail is ready for the local community to enjoy, with stage one of the $13.4 million Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Network open on 5 September 2025.
Just a shade under 20km long, the new Kembla Mountain Bike Trails cater for riders of all ages and levels.
From family-friendly green and blue trails to technically challenging black runs, there's something for everyone in this unforgettable environment.
An initiative by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Wollongong City Council, in close collaboration with the community, these trails offer an exciting, challenging ride carefully crafted to protect the Escarpment's natural and cultural values.
When complete, the Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Network will elevate the region as a must-visit destination for bike riders.
Final approvals for the remaining parts of the network are close, including stage two of the Kembla Mountain Bike Trails and the Balgownie Trails before construction commences in 2026.
It is expected the complete network will provide around 70km of trails.
