New Mural Unveiled At Gipps Street Recreation Precinct

A vibrant new mural inspired by local young people has transformed an 11-metre wall at Gipps Street Recreation Precinct, bringing colour, creativity and energy to the popular Youth Zone.

The mural was shaped by ideas shared by young people who contributed their thoughts on themes, colours and styles earlier this year. Their input helped guide the final design, which was created and painted by artists Daniel Walton and Scott Nagy.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the mural reflects the voices and creativity of young people in the community.

"This mural is a fantastic example of what can happen when young people are invited to share their ideas and help shape the spaces they use," Cr Carney said.

"Gipps Street Recreation Precinct has quickly become a favourite place for young people to meet, play and spend time outdoors. This artwork celebrates their creativity and helps make the Youth Zone an even more vibrant and welcoming place."

Artist Daniel Walton said working with ideas from local young people helped shape a mural that reflects the spirit of the space.

"We drew on the ideas young people shared with us and combined them with elements of sport, native wildlife and bold colour to create something that really belongs to this space," Mr Walton said.

The new mural adds to the variety of activities available at Gipps Street Recreation Precinct and highlights Council's commitment to creating places where young people feel connected and included.

Community members are invited to visit the Youth Zone at Gipps Street Recreation Precinct to see the mural and celebrate the creativity of Penrith's young people.
