The John Lomas Skatepark, in Moulder Park, is set to receive a much-anticipated upgrade with the addition of a giant mural.
As part of the upgrade, artists involved in the project will meet with local teenagers and skate park users to see how they can get involved in the new artwork.
Sport and Recreation Policy Committee Chair, Cr Tammy Greenhalgh, is excited at the potential for the project to inspire everyone who comes to skate.
"Art has the power to bring people together and inspire us all. This mural project at the skate park is a perfect example of that, and I'm proud to support it," Cr Greenhalgh said.
Selected professional artists Sonny Day and Joel Cameron will meet for a community consultation in Orange on Friday, February 24th, engaging with locals and Council staff to share ideas for the mural.
"As a town, we are committed to providing safe and welcoming spaces for all our residents and young people, and this mural is an important part of that effort. It adds a touch of beauty and character to this much-loved skate park," Cr Greenhalgh said.
The consultation event is open to the public and will be held on Friday 24 February at John Lomas Skatepark on Warrendine Street from 5pm to 7pm.
After the consultation, the artists will design two options to choose from by the end of February. Painting on site is expected to begin at the end of April and continue until mid-May for final delivery of the project.
In addition, during the project, the artists will hold two 'learn to paint workshops' on Saturday, April 22nd, and Sunday, April 23rd, with students. Kids who wish to attend the workshops can book in on Friday night during the community consultation.
This upgrade of John Lomas Skatepark is funded by the New South Wales Government with $70,000 from the Graffiti Management Grant program.
