The Centre for Social Impact is inviting charity, not-for-profit and for-purpose leaders to participate in an Australian-first research project in the wake of COVID-19.
The Centre for Social Impact has today launched a national, longitudinal research project that aims to provide key information on the state of the charity, not-for-profit and for-purpose sectors in the wake of COVID-19.
The survey results will form an in-depth look at the current operating conditions for Australian for-purpose organisations and will be compiled in a Pulse of the For-Purpose Sector Report.
Supported by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, the report will be used to support ongoing advocacy for a policy and operational environment that enhances the visibility, funding and collaboration amongst Australian for-purpose organisations.
CSI chief executive Professor Kristy Muir said that Australia has never kept track of its for-purpose sector on a national level, over time.
"We want to understand the stressors, the impacts of policy changes, and the challenges for Australia's charities, not-for-profits, community groups, social enterprises, and for-purpose organisations," Professor Muir said.
"COVID-19 and its aftermath is a new chapter in history. With this important work, CSI will help the for-purpose sector to understand what is changing over time and to build back better for Australian society, for generations to come."
Beyond community services alone, for-purpose organisations include educational institutions, aged care, wildlife rescue, cultural institutions such as museums and galleries, religious organisations, childcare, weekend sporting organisations, and much, much more. These organisations form the stitches that hold our communities together, in good times, and in bad.
CSI national research director Associate Professor Gemma Carey said: "CSI stands ready to be a key player in supporting immediate relief efforts and arming the organisations and communities we serve with the knowledge and resources needed for a better, brighter future post-COVID-19. This will be the first time we've had a national longitudinal consistent dataset for the for-purpose sector that will enable us to achieve this."
CSI is inviting leaders from charity, not-for-profit and for-purpose organisations to participate in this Australian-first survey.
Paul Ramsay Foundation's chief capability officer Jo Taylor said that the social sector not only provides vital services to the most marginalised in the community but is a significant employer and contributor to the economy.
"This critical research will help us not only to understand the impact of COVID-19 on the sector, but enable us to build back better," Ms Taylor said.
