The Finocchiaro CLP Government has welcomed a major boost to frontline policing, with 29 new recruits from Constable Squad 159 officially graduating after 8 months of intensive training.
Acting Chief Minister and Minister for Police Gerard Maley joined dignitaries, family and friends on Friday to witness the proud moment as the new constables took their next step into policing.
"Today we celebrate 29 constables stepping up to serve our community with courage, dedication and pride," Mr Maley said.
"The Northern Territory Police Force is one of the finest in Australia, and these constables now join its ranks with duty and discipline.
These graduating officers will now be deployed across the Northern Territory, with 8 heading to Alice Springs, 8 to Katherine, 7 to Tennant Creek, and the remaining 6 in the Greater Darwin Region.
In addition to their formal training, recruits have actively participated in community events throughout their course, including the City2Surf and the Anzac Day AFL Game Police Vs ADF match.
Since coming to government, a total of 184 new police officers have joined the Northern Territory Police Force.
"These recruits will put more boots on the ground to reduce crime and stand alongside our dedicated police force," said Mr Maley.
"Protecting Territorians is one of the highest callings - and these recruits have our full support as they take up that duty."
