The Finocchiaro CLP Government has welcomed the newest members of the Northern Territory Police Force, with 27 new recruits from Constable Squad 158 officially graduating after seven months of intensive training, alongside 17 officers transitioning from the Aboriginal Community Police Officer pathway to become constables.
Chief Minister and Police Minister Lia Finocchiaro joined dignitaries, family and friends on Friday to witness the proud moment as 44 constables took their next step into policing.
"I'm proud to celebrate 44 constables, both new recruits and experienced officers, for their commitment to a force that embodies courage, dedication, and service to the community," said Mrs Finocchiaro.
"It is a great honour to serve in the Northern Territory Police Force, one of the finest in the country, and these constables have answered that call with pride and dedication."
"It's fantastic to see 17 Aboriginal Community Police Officers transition to the Constable stream - the first transition squad ever," said Mrs Finocchiaro.
These graduating officers will now be deployed across the Northern Territory, with 14 heading to Alice Springs, five to Katherine, four to Tennant Creek, 19 remaining in the Greater Darwin Region, and one each to Lake Evella and Nhulunbuy.
In addition to their formal training, recruits have actively participated in community events throughout their course, including the Variety Santa Fun Run, the Australia Day Oz Run, and most recently, the City2Surf.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government remains focused on delivering safer communities right across the Northern Territory.
Since coming to government, a total of 135 new police officers have joined the Northern Territory Police Force.
"These new officers will bolster our efforts to reduce crime and support the dedicated men and women already serving communities right across the Territory," said Mrs Finocchiaro.
"We thank these recruits for stepping up to serve and protect Territorians. It's an honourable calling, and they have the full support of a government that backs our police and is determined to make the Territory safer."
