New Park And Ride In Midway Point Takes Shape

Tasmanian Government

Construction on a new park and ride facility in Midway Point has started.

Minister for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said the new facility is one of three new park and ride facilities planned across Greater Hobart, each providing better access to public transport for local communities and giving commuters more options when travelling into the Hobart CBD.

"The new facility in Midway Point will provide a safe and inviting space for local and surrounding communities with 59 parking spaces, two accessible spaces and five motorcycle spaces," Minister Vincent said.

"By building new facilities that offer convenient access to bus services, more people should feel encouraged to see public and active transport as reliable travel options.

"Centrally located between shared pathways for the Midway Point and Sorell causeways, the new facility also allows easy access for active transport users."

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, said the new park and ride site would help Greater Hobart to stay connected as it grows into the future.

"It is critical that we have the infrastructure to support an increased demand for public transport that comes with a growing population," Minister Abetz said.

"By building new facilities that make it easier for people to use public transport, we are taking action to meet the needs of Greater Hobart's growing population into the future."

Sorell Council Mayor Janet Gatehouse welcomed the progress on the project.

"As the fastest growing municipality in Tasmania, Sorell Council warmly welcomes this additional infrastructure that provides opportunities to support our community to grow and thrive into the future," Mayor Gatehouse said.

Construction on the Midway Point park and ride is part of the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future and is expected to finish in late 2025, weather permitting.
