The City of Canada Bay has completed works at Lovedale Place in Concord West, transforming the site into a welcoming green space for the local community.
Lovedale Place was temporarily converted into a car park during the COVID-19 pandemic to help meet increased parking demand around the Concord Hospital precinct.
Following the opening of new parking facilities at Concord Hospital, Council has restored the site to its intended purpose as public green space, with new tree planting and bush regeneration helping create a greener and more inviting place for residents.
"Lovedale Place played an important role during the pandemic, when additional parking was needed around Concord Hospital, but it was always intended that this site would ultimately return to being green open space," City of Canada Bay Mayor Megna said.
"With the new hospital parking facilities now in place, we have been able to restore Lovedale Place and create a space that the community can enjoy for years to come.
"This is a great example of making sure our neighbourhoods continue to have attractive, accessible green spaces, particularly as our area continues to grow."
The restoration included tree planting and bush regeneration works.
In July, Council also hosted a community planting event at Lovedale Place as part of National Tree Day, with local residents helping to plant more than 1,000 seedlings across the site.
"It was fantastic to see the community getting involved in the restoration of this space, with more than 1,000 seedlings planted on National Tree Day," Mayor Megna said.
"Those plants will continue to establish and mature over time, making Lovedale Place an even greener and more attractive part of Concord West."
Lovedale Place is now open for the community to enjoy.
