New parking plan for Brooklyn supports community vision for liveable and welcoming village for all

Following extensive investigation, Hornsby Shire Council's draft car parking management plan for Brooklyn, supporting the needs of both visitors and locals, is on public exhibition.

Last year Council endorsed a working version of its vision for Brooklyn. The vision seeks to protect Brooklyn's unique natural environment and ensure that the village is a liveable place that is welcoming and vibrant for the whole community.

"Brooklyn is a jewel in the crown of Hornsby Shire's unique and diverse landscape. We worked closely with the community to distill a vision for it as a place for everyone to enjoy. In doing so, people identified parking as the highest priority issue to be addressed, to achieve that vision," said Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock.

"Many years of work and careful consideration have paved the way for this parking plan. It is the result of a raft of studies, consultation, legal advice and robust data.

"I'm pleased that we are now taking this positive step forward and prioritising car parking in line with our responsibilities as a Council – to provide access to the Crown Land that we manage for recreational and village centre parking for businesses and visitors.

"We're now looking forward to receiving the community's feedback and I encourage everyone across the Shire to tell us their thoughts and any ideas that contribute to solutions."

The draft Brooklyn Car Parking Management Plan recommends introducing time restrictions on off-street parking and on-street parking on the northern side of the road servicing the Upper McKell Park picnic area. It also recommends excluding trailers from parking on public land in the village Centre.

We will liaise with the off-shore residents to investigate a potential alternative location for their long term parking needs.

The Brooklyn Car Parking Management Plan is now on public exhibition until 30 October 2022. Have your say at yoursay.hornsby.nsw.gov.au.
