New Pavilion On Way For Port Fairy Seagulls

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is kicking off an upgrade to the Port Fairy Seagulls Football Netball Club with a new pavilion at Gardens Oval.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced the Victorian Budget 2022/23 will invest $1.6 million towards the project, replacing the current building with new and updated club and change rooms. The project is expected to create up to 24 jobs during construction.

The new pavilion will have female friendly change rooms, umpire change rooms and spaces for community and club events.

Once complete the project will allow for the football and netball teams to further build their memberships, training, competitions and development programs at the ground. In 2020 the Seagulls had more than 1,000 playing and social members.

These investments create jobs, boost local economies, level the playing field and help community clubs grow participation – while also encouraging Victorians to get active and stay healthy.

The Budget takes the Government’s investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure to more than $1.2 billion since 2014.

As stated by Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence

Projects like this make such a difference to the community and I look forward to seeing this new pavilion take pride of place at Gardens Oval.”

We’re investing in projects like this because they provide more opportunities for participation and lay the perfect foundation for community sporting clubs to grow their numbers and host events, while also creating local jobs.”

As stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green

ThePort Fairy Seagulls are a big part of the Port Fairy community and they deserve facilities they can be proud of.”
