New permanent home for Launceston Head to Health

People living in and around Launceston can now access more community-based mental health services with a new, permanent Head to Health location officially opened at 62-64 Canning Street.

The $10.5 million Launceston Head to Health Service was established in the first roll out of Head to Health services and started operating from temporary premises in January 2022.

Head to Health services provide short to medium term care for adults with moderate to severe levels of mental health needs. People may be connected to longer term care if needed. It can also offer immediate support and follow up for people who are in crisis or distress.

People can attend the centre without a referral or appointment and all services are free of charge.

The centre also provides services in partnership with a trauma counsellor, Reconciliation Tasmania, Flourish, Mental Health Family and Friends, Brain Injury Association of Tasmania, the Suicide Prevention Network, Anglicare, The Salvation Army, Wellways, Baptcare and Maxima.

More than $601.7 million has been provided to expand the Head to Health network nationally.

Interpreting services will also be available at this Head to Health service through the Australian Government's recent investment in Translating and Interpreting Services.

People can also call Head to Health on 1800 595 212 to talk to a trained professional and be connected with the supports that best meet their needs.
